Spirit of Courage Award to John Weidner for 10 years of Support to Kids Connect/Parents Connect Program

Each year at one of CSCCNJ’s most popular community events, Wings of Hope, we honor a special person with the Dawn C. Peragallo Spirit of Courage Award to recognize an individual who has not only shown courage when personally affected by cancer, but who through his/her actions has impacted the lives of others affected by cancer. On June 4, 2016, CSCCNJ will present the Spirit of Courage Award to John Weidner to recognize his 10 years of fundraising and support for our Kids Connect/Parents Connect Program, in honor of his friend, Dawn C. Peragallo.

“Dawn was a wonderful person and an inspiration to those who had the good fortune to know her,” John said. “As a mother of two, Dawn recognized the need for a support program for children whose parents suffer from cancer.”

The Kids Connect/Parents Connect and Bereavement programs here at CSCCNJ would not have been possible without Dawn’s efforts to ensure that children impacted by a parent’s cancer are not alone.  Thanks to her vision, these support programs have flourished and have touched the lives of numerous children and parents affected by cancer.

John, an avid marathon runner, will be participating in his 14th Boston Marathon on Monday, April 18 in support of CSCCNJ.

“The last marathon I ran, I received a package full of letters from the children in the program, thanking me for supporting the program,” said John. “They were all very cute and a good reminder of why I keep doing it.”
