Community. Survivorship. Hope. These words describe Cancer Support Community of Central New Jersey’s annual “Wings of Hope” event taking place on Saturday, June 3rd. www.crossroads4hope.orgwings

Each year, community members attend this event as volunteers, participants, or both. They walk together for 1 mile and participate in a monarch butterfly release. The event is for all ages, so bring the little ones. There will be face painting, crafts, drum circles, and more. New to the celebration this year, Chris Claveley, FC Futbol Founder, will be offering a sneak peek into his Adult Soccer Series: F.A.C.E. Cancer. No experience needed!

“Wings of Hope” is a unique event because at its core is a celebration honoring National Cancer Survivors Day.Ⓡ This is combined with a great sense of community, an opportunity to learn and heal, as well as a chance to celebrate one individual who has made a great difference.

Every year, CSCCNJ honors someone new for the Dawn C. Peragallo Spirit of Courage award to recognize an individual who has not only shown courage when personally affected by cancer, but who has impacted the lives of others affected by cancer. This year, Sandra Kennedy will be honored for her service as a leadership volunteer and her work to raise awareness and funds to support their mission.

This community day culminates with an inspiring monarch butterfly release. The butterflies symbolize the “Wings of Hope” for those at any stage in their cancer journey. This release provides hope for patients, caregivers, and family members to solidify the CSC message that no one faces cancer alone.Ⓡ In addition to the butterfly release, tributes can be purchased through donations to honor or to remember a loved one. These remain hanging throughout the event as a visual representation of hope alongside origami cranes.

As in years past, there will also be a clothing drive to raise money for programs delivered by CSCCNJ. Attendees can donate gently used clothing from 9:30- 11:30 a.m. at a designated drop off area in the facility’s parking lot. Other fundraising opportunities at “Wings of Hope” include purchasing a hand-made butterfly tribute in honor or in memory of a loved one. There will also be students from local schools selling bracelets, pillows, and pottery.
