Social workers attending this course receive 1 CE credits - $25 FEE

Learning Objectives

1. Participants will be able to list key ethical considerations related to disclosing a cancer diagnosis or prognosis to a child.

2. Participants will be able to recognize common family hesitations associated with disclosure, and ways to address concerns with respect.

3. Participants will be able to use a 4-step tool to assess family and cultural hesitations and disclosure priorities and prepare families for developmentally appropriate reactions associated with disclosing a cancer diagnosis to a child.

About the Instructor

Rachel Werner is the Manager of Program Development & Delivery, and one of the Certified Child Life Specialists on the team at Crossroads4Hope. With a master's degree in Child Life and certificate in Grief Counseling, Rachel has extensive experience working in hospital settings, educational organizations, and international non-profits. Rachel is passionate about expanding access to psychosocial care globally and has participated in medial missions or delivered educational workshops in Ethiopia, India, Israel, Romania, and throughout the United States. In her current role, Rachel oversees the multi-disciplinary team responsible for developing programs for members across the cancer continuum, while also continuing to provide psychosocial support to member families.

- Certificates of completion will be emailed within 10 business days of course completion

- Course completion requirements: Social workers must attend the entire course and complete an attestation of attendance and course evaluation to be eligible for CE credit.
