This evidence-based workshop is designed to empower Child Life Specialists to lead conversations about cancer with confidence. Participants will explore developmentally appropriate language and psychosocial frameworks that demystify the disease while supporting a child’s emotional coping. Through play-based, hands-on medical education, attendees will learn an intervention that uses common play materials to teach children and their caregivers the foundational knowledge regarding tumors, the goals of treatment, and common misconceptions. By the conclusion of this session, participants will be equipped with tailored language and a practical educational activity designed to bridge the gap between medical complexity and childhood understanding.
The Child Life Certification Commission has pre- approved this course toward application for the CCLS credential in the Intervention Category at 1 PDU.
